The Terminal

My project reimagines the post-war Westwijk district in Vlaardingen, using a gender-equality lens to design homes and communal spaces. The original design catered to traditional family structures, but as society evolved, so did the neighborhood’s needs. I tackled these changes with sustainable, community-centered solutions.
The project site reflects the rich history of the region while highlighting the effects of the post-war decline. Once a vibrant center for public gatherings, the area now requires revitalization to restore its significance. My design seeks to breathe new life into this historic hub, turning it into a welcoming space where both communities can come together and thrive.

The Terminal integrates various modes of transport to ensure fast and efficient connections between the two communities. By enhancing public spaces and encouraging cultural exchanges, the design promotes interaction and collaboration, fostering a sense of shared identity.
This approach contributes to the healing process in a historically divided region, making it easier for both communities to engage and benefit from one another.
